Balwyn North is located 11 km east of the CBD. Located south of the Eastern Freeway and the Koonung Creek Balwyn North is primarily a residential suburb in Melbourne's east. It features large areas of parkland including the Koonung Creek Reserve Greythorn Park Leigh Park and the Hislop and Gordon Barnard Reserves. Like a number of suburbs in this part of Melbourne the population has decreased and aged significantly over the 1981-1996 period.
