Burwood East is located 17 km east of the CBD. Burwood East is a primarily residential area located in Melbourne's middle eastern suburbs. Like a number of suburbs in this part of Melbourne the population has decreased and aged significantly over the 1981-1996 period. A large proportion of the labour force is employed in the wholesale and retail trade industry sector. The suburb also features a number of employers including the Australian Taxation Office Hewlett Packard and those in the Tally Ho Business Park.
